Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are high school students primarily from the Bronx, a diverse population of students.
My students have varying levels of abilities when it comes to academics but they all have something at which they excel.
My school encourages the development of the arts and students find a place here where they are able to express themselves creatively.
Our school is located in an area defined as a low socioeconomic neighborhood and many times students have not been given the same opportunities or exposure as their peers in other neighborhoods. Even with that disadvantage, however, my students are eager and ready to learn and prove themselves as valuable parts of their community.
My Project
With the Parrot programmable mini drones and rolling spider my students will be able to use Swift Playgrounds to learning the basics of coding which will eventually lead them to app development, where they can become creators.
Apart from learning a skill that is marketable in the future coding will also allow our students to learn skills such as perseverance and problem-solving.
These materials will enhance my students ability to learn and create in a world that values and requires digital literacy for success.
My students have already shown an astonishing interest in becoming creators in this digital age and teaching them to code in a meaningful practical way will ensure that they get to see their skills grow and and evolve.
