I teach at a full inclusion NC Lab School. My class is a diverse group of 17 students in 1st and 2nd grade.
Each student in my class is a special part of our classroom family.
Some are in 1st grade, some are in 2nd. Some struggle in math, and some struggle in reading. However our struggles, we make up a unique classroom community who are learning to love and support each other no matter our differences.
My students are mostly of low socioeconomic status so I am their means of most supplies for activities in our classroom. All my students receive free breakfast and lunch.
It is my goal to give my students experiences and opportunities to learn and grow into lifelong learners.
My Project
These items are things that we use daily in our classroom. Dry erase markers are essential to our daily routine. We write on our whiteboards during math, reading, and phonics time. The dry erase pouches will be great to use during math and reading centers to help save paper!
We use Math manipulatives daily to engage and enhance student understanding of concepts.
My students love to play math games during our guided math groups, which I print on cardstock and laminate for multiple uses. The dice will allow them to have more game options. The cubes will be great as my first graders dive into addition and subtraction and my 2nd grades learn to compose and decompose a ten!
My students' favorite part of the day is our STEAM time. During this time we explore being architects, engineers, artists and other occupations. The play-doh and popsicle sticks are just 2 of the many materials we use often. My students will use these items to create towers, catapults, and other structures to meet different task challenges. Also the A in STEAM stands for art and the pom-poms, pipe cleaners, and yarn will be used during that creative time as well.
