My Students
Our school is a place where students and teachers love to learn and grow. We're located in northeast Seattle and are made up of a high population of immigrant families, low-income housing, and beautiful parks within walking view of Lake Washington. Teachers and staff always put kids first, understanding the high needs for these specific students' social and emotional growth along with academics.
Our kids are so eager to learn, that each morning they practically run us down in their excitement to get to their classrooms!
This is just one real example of how important being at school- a consistently safe place, with their friends, around people who care about them- is to our students. Teachers and staff feel the true urgency to get our students up to grade level in Reading, Writing, and Math and it has paid off! In 2015 we received a School of Distinction Award for proving as a school in the top 5% state-wide for raising academic achievement over the last 5 years.
My Project
Each day students practice skills and share their learning and ideas using different types of materials. We're in desperate need for the basics: pencils, erasers, makers, and different types of paper/sticky notes.
Having a ready supply of pencils and erasers will ensure students don't waste any of their precious time at school worrying about how they'll show their work.
The last thing a teacher or student needs to worry about is finding a sharp pencil, which has been the case many times lately! Students will be more easily engaged in their job of learning with these materials.
Each day, guided lessons happen in a way that ALL students can access the information. With big posters, bold markers, and colorful sticky notes, students will be able to refer back to a lesson by using these visual cues.
