This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing! I'm sure many teachers have said this, but mine really are! First, they are a cooperative bunch of 30 third graders who love to work in small groups to reinforce lessons. At times some of my students may struggle with whole class mini-lessons, but accessing a teacher during small group on the rug really pushes their thinking and understanding! Small group instruction has also become an empowering tool for all of my students. Students find enjoyment and leadership opportunities in assisting one other. They are engaged and eager to learn. In my classroom, I have a variety of learners and small group instruction presents the opportunity to meet all of their needs.

Students persevere, rely on, and encourage one another when given a group task that requires productive struggle.

When given chart paper or an easel with markers, my students really propel themselves as leaders by asking one another questions, holding each other accountable and holding meaningful discussions. Our class is in constant bloom, learning new writing techniques, reading strategies, and mathematical thinking strategies.

My Project

My students benefit from accessing teacher models of task expectations. A movable easel will provide all of my students with the appropriate visual representations regardless of the subject. Providing a mechanical sharpener will create a classroom with self-determination in that students will be responsible for maintaining pencil readiness.

Providing my students with access to unlimited pencils as well as a mechanical sharpener will promote independence and boundless potential.

The teach and store easel will promote organization as well as modeling of tasks. My students love to reference the charts hanging in the classroom. This tool will also support small group instruction as well as it is movable.
