This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
This is my first year teaching high school, and I am recognizing the obvious needs and struggles that some of our scholars experience throughout their learning experience and even beyond the classroom. The items in my cart are a few resources that have been needed and utilized often to ensure their success. I tend to take advantage of the food that gets donated by the school/community and use those items to help feed my students. With the help of those snack donations, I can lessen the financial burden on myself when donations are not available.
I have noticed that many of the expectations that we had as students have not been taught, but expected by today's scholars, and I want to be one of the educators that equips our scholars with everything they need to maximize their potential.
To minimize excuses for lack of resources and maximize their success, I try to keep supplies on hand where students can borrow or "redeem" based on our point system. This teaches the students the important of money and valuing their resources. Many of these students are not taught how to prioritize their time, resources, etc., so, I try to be strategic and provided them with all of the tools necessary to be successful, and I hold them accountable from there.
As an English and Tools for Success teacher, I am always crafting and distributing resources to our scholars and the printer will make that process much easier to provide my students with what they need.
