Help me give my students age-appropriate sized marching percussion to allow even our smallest players to experience the joy and excitement of playing marching drums.
My students are dedicated and enthusiastic musicians. We have three "grade level" curricular concert bands. These bands perform individually and also combine for marching band and other special performances. Our students also have the opportunity to participate in a number of extra-curricular ensembles including wind ensemble, jazz band, and chamber ensembles.
Our musicians come from a variety of backgrounds and musical experiences, but all share an enthusiasm and love of playing that makes my job incredibly rewarding and fun.
Our community is supportive of our program, but we, like so many other schools in our area, are struggling with budget constraints that limit our resources.
My Project
We desperately need quality marching equipment that is appropriately sized for our young musicians.
Half of our current marching drums were purchased for our school band's participation in the Kennedy Inaugural Parade...yes, the one in 1961!
The other equipment is newer but the snare drum carriers do not fit most middle school musicians and the bass drums are much too heavy to be carried safely by our middle school drummers.
At our last parade, we had drums fall apart during the parade and students in tears because of the discomfort and weight of their drums and carriers. We can't participate in our community's parades without percussionists! Please help us replace our current drums with quality equipment appropriately sized for our middle school musicians!
