Mrs. Santos from Chicago IL is requesting Educational Kits & Games through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

Everybody Gets a Book!

Help me give my students engaging materials while they are in isolation. Relatable novels and fun activity kits will help them get through these challenging times.

My Students

My students are from the southeast side of Chicago. They bring a special blend of linguistic diversity, background knowledge, prior experiences, and culture to our school. We are a Title I school in a low-income community.

My students are creative, clever and very enthusiastic about learning.

They would greatly benefit from a variety of classroom resources to help increase their success in our newly established distance remote learning platform. As of March 17th, my students have been learning at home. School buildings will be closed due to the COVID-19 virus for the rest of the school year. This presents a challenge, as most of my students do not have access to supplies in their homes. They especially need great books to read.

My Project

Most of my students are of Chinese descent so I chose a novel that will not only appeal to them but that will also help them learn about the history of China from a child's perspective. This is important as there are so few books that focus on this.

At the same time that students are tackling distance learning, they are also dealing with loneliness, boredom, and isolation.

So not only is their academic learning being tested, but also their ability to stay engaged while on their own. For this end, I also included various different art kits in my request while considering the varied interests of all my students. I am hoping that these kits will keep their little hands busy and their imaginations active.

I would greatly appreciate your help in funding my project. This community has always been so generous and I couldn't be more grateful for all the help I have received in the past. Please consider helping my students again. Thank you.
