Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am requesting two communication devices that will be used to help my non-speaking students. I will create laminated sheets with icons or pictures of important vocabulary so that my students can communicate their preferences. For example, I will create a sheet that has a books, water, snacks, slime, slide, and beanbag and teach him or her how to use the device to request. In my experience, when children learn that they can select items on the communication device and have access to what they want, we see problematic behaviors decrease dramatically.

Some children start imitating and using the words modeled by the voice output immediately.

This device can be a wonderful step on a child's journey to becoming an effective communicator.
