"Did I get it right?" "But the answer should have been ___!"
I'd like full audience participation/discussion by allowing each student a chance to have their voices heard. With an SRS system, every student will be more engaged and interested. I will be able to quickly assess student understanding.
I teach at a large, urban, public school.
My students include many ELL and special education first graders. Our school is one of the most diverse schools in the city. Students speak over 15 different languages at our school. As in every class, some students are more reluctant to speak/answer than others. Although eager to learn, many of my ELL students and some special education students are reluctant to raise their hand and participate. With an SRS system, correct/incorrect answers (of individual students) are anonymous on the screen but visible to the teacher. Students can respond without fear of being wrong. I want every student in my class to know that their opinion/answer is validated and important.
My students love school and always look forward to trying different learning modes.
My Project
With a Student Response System, each and every student will be able to respond to a question with an individual clicker. Students could also work in teams to formulate an answer. This response system will allow the more timid/shy students to have a voice and validate each answer. The system will calculate student responses and project a graph of outcomes. This will allow me, as the teacher, to take a closer look at student responses and quickly address misconceptions (class, group, or individual). This type of analysis will provide immediate, rich classroom discussion.
With an SRS system, I can more easily assess what my students need help with and when I can move on to new skills. This technology can be used across all academic areas. It can also be used to develop social and work-study skills. It is very versatile.
All people who attempt to answer a question have an innate curiosity as to whether the answer was right or wrong.
This very engaging and motivating response system will help feed that curiosity in my students. It will help ALL students, at all different academic levels, remain focused and participating. It will foster classroom discussion and debate (WHY did you choose that answer?). It will help students formulate evidence to support their views and synthesize information.
Thank you!
