Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a counselor at a school in Everman, Texas. I work with students in grades PK-4. Our students live in a highly impoverished area where every student qualifies to receive free lunch. Our students face many difficulties and circumstances in their young lives.
Many of our students are able to get two meals a day instead of three.
They receive free lunches at our school, but sometimes go home to empty refrigerators. We were signed up for a food snack program at our local food bank. Unfortunately, they are reorganizing the program and we will have to wait until next year to apply to get snacks for our students that come to school hungry. Many staff members purchase snacks out of their own budget to help their kids, but this also puts a strain on them.
My Project
I have worked as a school counselor for 5 years. I have seen the needs of our students on a regular basis. I know their families are doing the best they can. Some of our students are considered homeless because they are living in hotels or with other family members. Their clothes are often dirty, ill-fitting, or hand me downs that have gone through several kids. Every student deserves clean clothes and shoes that fit. With your donations, I will be able to help 25 students that are in need of uniforms and/or shoes.
Your donations will help those students in desperate need of clothes and shoes that fit them properly.
These students sometimes feel out of place and sad because they do not have clothes and shoes that fit properly.
