Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever felt like you were in a class but not really a part of it? Sometimes I feel like my students have that Charlie Brown teacher stuck to the board at the front of the class. Students in the back of the class do not get to interact as much as students in the front and miss out on so much.
I teach mainly 9th graders at an inner city charter high school in California.
Almost all of my students come from families who are struggling to make ends meet. Our school is a small charter school that is struggling financially but making huge strides with our population. My students come into high school with very negative feelings towards school and especially math. They come in years behind grade level but grow so much with a little bit of motivation and structure.
Often times, my students only just begin to see the possibilities of going to college when they come into our school as ninth graders. They are intelligent, resilient and very capable, but their potential is often times thwarted by the negative social pressures that surround them.
My Project
Imagine every student feeling like they were in the front of the class and had equal access to the teacher. My students would feel like they were more involved in the class and be less likely to feel invisible in the classroom. I could work out examples and show incredible visuals from ANYWHERE in the classroom- which means that more students can be pulled into the lesson and I can be more mobile. Students can also show their work on the tablet for other classmates to see and the tablets can easily be passed around to different groups so that everyone has a chance to use it. The tablets can also be used in group competitions. To top it all off, it would be introducing my students to modern technology that is also eco-friendly!
These tablets would make a dramatic difference in how I interact with my students, how my students interact with each other and how they interact with the material.
My students deserve to be familiar with the technology of today that will make them competitive in the future. Help make my class more mobile and give every student a front seat.
