My Project

When I arrived in my classroom last year, I was provided with a classroom rug by the school. It was a wonderful starting point, but after a year of teaching, I have learned so much about my students and how they learn best. While the existing rug served its purpose, it simply isn't large enough to bring an entire class together. My students are creative, energetic, and eager to participate. They learn best when they can see one another, interact, and feel like they are part of something bigger than themselves.

Every child deserves a place where they feel seen, valued, and included.

Before I joined my school, music instruction relied heavily on tables and chairs. While those certainly have their place, my vision for the music room is different. I want it to be a space where students gather, collaborate, create, and build a sense of community through music.

At our school, we intentionally teach students the importance of working together because we recognize that hyper-independence has become increasingly common. We want our students to understand the value of collaboration, communication, and supporting one another.

A larger classroom rug with enough space for every student would help bring that vision to life by giving us a central gathering place where everyone has a seat and everyone is included. Whether we are singing together, discussing a piece of music, practicing rhythms, or simply sharing ideas, this rug will become the heart of our classroom.

My goal is to create a music room where every student feels they belong, where collaboration comes naturally, and where students can flourish individually while growing together as a musical community.
