Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many of my students have experienced trauma in their lives and have difficulty coming to school. Our school serves students that have the classification of emotional disturbance. The typical student in my class reads between a Kindergarten and First grade level. Many struggle with basic phonics and number sense content. Ninety percent of our students are African American and/or Latino.
The opportunity and achievement gaps are apparent in our student population.
Our department budget is zero dollars for our students because the budget has been cut.
Our classrooms are dilapidated, textbooks are outdated and technology is virtually nonexistent. Special education teachers are expected to deliver excellent instruction in science, math, English, and history without the requisite tools to teach our students.
My Project
My project will help to assist every student in my classroom with reading, writing, and mathematics. The majority of my students have very low thresholds and tolerance for reading, writing, and math.
We are requesting eight Chromebooks to support a computer based program for all of these subjects which would best benefit and assist all of the students at their own individual academic levels.
This would help them to improve with all academic areas as well as stamina, validity, and self confidence.
The reading program will be able to help teach phonics, blends, endings, prefixes, and help to build the students individual reading level overall. The math program will be able to help assist with basic skills that the student slack so of. Such as, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
