This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Teenagers are more stressed now than ever! The students are heavily relying on social media to keep them occupied mentally and emotionally. Many of them are having a hard time managing stress from school, as well as keeping up with the "perfect world" that social media is portraying. Anxiety and depression in teens has been sky-rocketed these couple of years.
When children don't feel safe or in a state of emotional distress, THEY CANNOT LEARN.
Safe spaces are where children can go to calm down, be alone, and recharge so they are ready to learn. This project will be providing some comfortable seating, a classroom rug, and some cozy pillows for a small safe space in the classroom to help the students regulate their emotions.
Safe spaces are helpful for all children, they are especially effective for all children with high level of stress and trauma. These materials will be extremely helpful for my students with special needs as well. They will provide a space for them to take a minute from the lesson to calm down, solve problems, and/or take care of themselves in this corner.
