Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have been blessed to teach at this school for 28 years. My school is a wonderful place to be and that is why I have worked there for most of my career. Students feel safe and loved when they walk through the doors of my classroom.

Drawing and coloring are powerful tools for children as they allow them to create representations of their own experiences, observations, theories and emotions.

That is why I am requesting Crayola Twistable Color Pencils and LCD Writing Tablets to allow my transitional kindergarten students an opportunity to produce brilliant colored directed drawing lessons and give attention to details in their daily writing and coloring. It will also provide them an opportunity to use a bigger variety of colors due to the limited number of crayons they have.

Unfortunately, our funding does not allow for this type of purchase of art supplies and writing tablets for our classroom. Currently, my students do not have access to the artistic resources that I feel would enhance their learning and creativity. We no longer have a school wide art program due to limited funding. We all know, young children need opportunities to create and write each and every day. As an early childhood educator, I understand the importance of integrating arts into the curriculum through inquiry-based learning.
