My students are 3 and 4-year-olds from a diverse neighborhood in Washington, DC. They come from many different cultural backgrounds and many are learning to speak English while maintaining their home languages. They are inquisitive, kind, and energetic--full of curiosity about the world around them.
In Pre-K, students grow into confident learners who express themselves and their learning through experimentation with a variety artistic media.
My students are continuously building their knowledge and skills by engaging with diverse materials and exploring their environment.
My Project
As young learners, Pre-K students need to talk, touch, move, explore, and CREATE to gain new knowledge and practice skills. These materials will help supply our classroom art center--a critical classroom area for experimentation and early brain development.
These materials will help my students develop their fine motor skills and cognitive skills like symbolic representation and will provide them with many opportunities to creatively express their growing knowledge.
These materials will be used every day during center time, when students choose where and how they want to play and learn. The art center is a very popular classroom area in which students are able to communicate their learning through a variety of artistic media and engage their imaginations by experimenting with different materials and techniques.
