Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

With the rigor of school standards rising, sometimes art is left out of the curriculum and funding. But it is important to remember that art enriches students' lives and learning.

My students are 5 and 6 year-old children who live in a low socio-economic community.

Many of my students are English Language Learners. They are great kids, but many times have to deal with difficult situations in their lives. Though our school may not be located in a great area, we work hard to give our students an inviting place to learn and a chance to experience new and memorable things, in order to create an opportunity for a better life.

My Project

My students need painters, pastels, chalk, white board crayons, crinkle cut scissors, stamper markers, collage buttons, and various construction paper to create art. The materials that I am requesting for my students will allow them to work with different art mediums. I plan to teach various art lessons where they will create art pieces or projects using different materials. These include projects where they will develop their drawing, coloring, cutting, and motor skills. I also plan to leave a designated area for an art center, where students have access to various art supplies and can explore and create on their own. This allows students to be more independent and express their individuality. Finally, many of these materials will also be used to integrate art into the curriculum. We can create many art projects based on what we are learning in language arts, science, or math.

Art is especially important for kindergartners.

They need activities that will enhance their development and motivate them to learn. Many students in my class are attending school for the very first time and have never experienced picking up a paint brush or pastels. I know that they will love art, that it will enrich their education, and that it will make them better critical thinkers.
