Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year, I’m building a space where students in Transitional Kindergarten through 4th grade can explore performance, self-expression, and social-emotional learning through theatre. I’m requesting a range of tools to help bring their creativity to life and to make our classroom feel like a real stage.

To support storytelling and dramatic play, I’m asking for a puppet theater, a large puppet set, and a storage tree so students can easily access and care for the puppets.

These will allow students to create characters, perform in groups, and develop collaboration skills. I’ve also included blank paper mache masks that students can decorate to express character emotions or moods.

To explore rhythm and atmosphere, I’ve added egg shakers so students can experiment with sound during performances. Paired with our theatre activities, they’ll help students build focus and connect sound to storytelling. A set of career-themed costumes will further encourage role play, confidence, and imaginative thinking.

Finally, I’m including an SEL-focused card game that will help students name, understand, and express their emotions a skill that’s deeply connected to theatre and personal growth.

These resources will help transform our space into a joyful, creative environment where students feel free to take risks, tell stories, and step proudly into the spotlight.
