My 4/5 combination class is comprised of an amazing group of 33 students representing cultures from around the world. Families come from diverse backgrounds and many students are first generation US citizens.
My Project
This project will provide my students with challenges on several levels. The students need access to these chess sets that come with 'tips and tricks' to help them learn to love the game of chess. Too many students these days only play electronic games and will benefit from learning this hands-on strategic game. Because these Chess Sets come with varying levels of support all students in the class will be able to benefit from increasing independence and skill mastery while playing. The Chess Sets will help students develop strategic thinking, planning, patience, and perseverance. TIME For Kids will give them a bigger picture of the world around them and help them to understand many of the complex problems facing our country and society today. The balloons are for a collaborate activity taken directly from a major corporate American employee evaluation program! They will need to work together to succeed in a group task (and have fun!) Our students today are constantly bombarded with electronics and high-tech everything - these items will show them there are other ways to learn and discover new things!
