This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are brand new 9th graders entering the world of high school biology and learning about the magic of the living world.
We have a hugely diverse student population with over 95 different languages spoken throughout the district.
25% of our students are also English language learners, who get the challenging job of learning English and science at the same time. The students also have access to a dual language program where half of their classes are taught in Spanish. We see our diversity as an asset and an opportunity to educate bilingual and biliterate citizens for the future.
However 80% of our students come from low income household which means our creative and talented students do not always have access to the very best resources. This is where you come in, help our incredible students have the most inspiring scientific experience in their biology class this year.
My Project
Help our new High School garden program grow. We need garden tools, gloves, seeds and other materials to help students explore growing their own food at school. Our students live in an urban/ suburban area and many have never experienced gardening and growing food. We will be growing plants inside our new greenhouse for Biology class. These plants will be used to supply our awesome culinary program with freshly grown herbs and vegetables. We are so excited to help students get their hands dirty and eat the fruits of their labor!
