My Project
I am all in when it comes to two things- the power of a good story and the importance of kindness in everyday life. While there are many great programs and good books on the market, I believe one stands above the rest- the book "Wonder," by R.J. Palacio. I have seen this book change students' lives in so many positive ways, and I am committed to replicating this successful program again this year with my class.
Bullying prevention does not start with a program- it starts with children's hearts.
I'm sure you are aware that bullying is a massive issue today. It leads to a lot of hurt, hateful speech, and harmful behavior. My heart aches deeply when I see unkind behavior leading to a world filled with ugly. I believe it's a heart issue, and I am out to change that. I've found a story that sinks deep into students and stirs a desire to be nobler, more compassionate, and, as the author puts it, "a little kinder than necessary." Let those words sink into your soul. Wouldn't you love a generation like that? I would. I've seen this book change lives. Will you provide me with the tools to change a small corner of the world, for the better?
I have used this book effectively for years, and hope to use it for years to come, but it is important to me that each student be able to keep their own book forever. Will you enable me to change students' lives by putting a great book in their hands, and trusting that it will sink in to their hearts as well?
