Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In our low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. To combat the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

I have a self-contained 6th grade classroom.

I would like to incorporate different activities to keep them engaged as it will be difficult for special education to stay in one classroom while the rest of the student population will be able to transition to other classrooms.

My Project

My students love reading the Scholastic Action magazines. I have used these resources in the past with my classroom.

The students really enjoy these magazines and the articles that are written.

Plus, they have the option of listening to the articles being read to them. Because of this option, headphones are needed as I've had my classroom set for a few years and, unfortunately, most of the headphones are unusable.

As another great option, I am able to print the worksheets from the Scholastic website and build my students' vocabulary and test their knowledge on the articles. I would like to continue using these magazines for my classroom for the next school year.
