These students are a hard working group of kids. They are asked to play at football games, parades, basketball games, and concerts very regularly.
The students take pride in the fact that despite the school's declining population and funding, the band program continues to grow.
Because of the students' attitudes and hard work, they have been able to show the community that being in the band is worth it.
Most of these students are on free/reduced lunch due to the economic stresses of the area. We live in a rural poor community that doesn't get a lot of economic attention and therefore many of these students have to borrow from the school or purchase less than quality supplies and equipment to fit their budgets.
My Project
These materials are items we use in the classroom every day. Without them, the students cannot be successful.
Good equipment makes it easier to learn.
The students will not have to worrying about whether or not they can afford the nicer supplies. The better the reed, the better the sound. It becomes more difficult for a student to create good sounds when they have faulty "cheap" reeds.
When each student has good reeds, the quality of sound improves drastically. The students are then able to focus more on learning notes, rhythms, articulations, etc. without having to worry about their reeds giving out.
These reeds are also great because they are consistent. Woodwinds often go through many reeds when the "cheap" reeds are purchased. They are mass produced and often aren't tested to find the flaws. Good reeds not only sound better, but in the long run are less expensive because students aren't having to purchase a lot to find a few good ones.
