Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a high needs community in New York where over 90% of the students are eligible for free lunch. The majority of my students come from foreign countries and are English Language Learners. I am teaching Technology to students from K-2 who are all eager students. At this time I am building up a tech bucket of hands on materials.
My Project
The materials I am requesting such as the Kinderbots and Botleys will go a long way into teaching coding in a hands on way. I use programs like Code.org and Scratch Jr in class. The goal is to use these materials as a way of displaying and presenting what students have learned. I plan on creating challenges (mazes) where students will work in teams to solve.
While this project will not directly be used at home, the goal is that they help inspire students to continue building at home!
There are many free resources and programs available for home use I want to inspire students to go home and brag about what they have learned to their parents, which in turn will help get the ball rolling into more coding fun at home!
