Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Eve Bunting is one of the finest children's authors of our time. Bunting grew up in Northern Ireland, but relocated to California. She tackles many social issues, such as racism, gender inequalities, homelessness, illiteracy, etc. in her writing. Since my East Harlem fifth graders will be doing social issue book clubs this spring, I think it would be ideal to get more of Eve Bunting's thought-provoking books into their hands. Students become interested in authors when they discover connections between a text and their personal life. Hence, as we read through Bunting's books, I intend on carrying out many extension activities, such as making a comparison chart across books and examining Bunting's craft by using her books to as mentor texts for my students' own writing. I only have four of the over 200 books Eve Bunting has published. Therefore, I am asking for your assistance with obtaining her other picture books and age-appropriate novels for my students. This is a costly endeavor and my students and I need your help! Won't you please consider funding a study of Eve Bunting's books for my fifth grade class? Thank you, in advance for your consideration of this request.
