Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students at my school are beyond special. Many of them have more life experience in their teenage years than many of us will have in our lifetimes. Regardless of their situations or pasts, they show up to school. They show up with smiles on and eagerness to learn.
My coworkers and I are impressed and inspired by our students' resilience and want to support them as much as we can.
We pour our energy into our lessons, but its not enough. They need basic essentials to be successful academically and socially.
The materials I am requesting are basic essentials such as toothpaste and bars of soap so that my students can feel clean and comfortable and ready to learn at school. Unfortunately, most students and their families are not in a place where they can provide themselves with these basics. Being able to provide them with some will help alleviate some stress from their daily lives and also let them know that they are loved.
When basic needs are met, then, learning and creativity can flourish!
