Essentials Create a Warm, Welcoming Environment for HS English

My Students
My students are the kindest, most determined, hardest working people I know. Many of them face great adversity in their homes and in their daily lives, yet they come to school each day willing to learn and to do their best. I love my students more than I can explain and once they have been in my class, they are forever "my kids."
Because of my love for my students, I'm tough on them, but they rise to each and every challenge set before them.
They are tough, strong-willed, and determined and I'm so lucky to get to spend every day with them!
I primarily teach 10th graders, but I also have a group of advanced freshmen, and I usually teach some upperclassmen as well.
My students are a very diverse group. They live in varied locations, including inside the city and out in the county, they have diverse family situations, and their backgrounds are also diverse. Despite their many differences, they come together to form one of the top-ranked high schools in our state!
My Project
Because this year was so strange and different, my students' mental and emotional wellbeing truly suffered. They weren't able to work together, collaborate, or build the personal connections they're used to building because school was such a sterile place, with assigned, spaced out seating and virtually no fun activities.
My goal through this project is to spice up our classroom environment and take our classroom in the complete opposite direction--creating a safe, comfortable space for everyone.
The bulletin board supplies will allow me to frequently display student work so students can feel proud of themselves and welcome in my classroom. The vacuum will be necessary for the new rugs I'll have for collaborative spaces--clean collaboration zones that are bug free (thanks to the bug spray) will allow my students to again feel comfortable and welcome in my classroom.
My students' connections to one another and to me, collaboration, and a comfortable working environment are ALL the TOP priority for me in the coming year--please help me create this type of classroom environment through these new supplies!
