Essential Warmth, Happy Hearts: Supplying Care to Growing Cougar Scholars

Help me give my students warmth. In our Cougars Care Closet: sets of winter gear (gloves, hats, socks), hygiene kits (deodorant, dental care, combs), storage bins, and emergency snacks - supporting student wellness and dignity.

My Project

My students go beyond their circumstances every day. Despite facing economic challenges, they arrive at Southwest Edgecombe High with determination and dreams. Some walk long distances or wait at bus stops in harsh weather, yet they never let these obstacles dim their spirits. What makes them truly special is their willingness to support one another. I've seen students share their last pencil or jacket without hesitation.

These essential items will transform their daily learning experience.

When students don't have to worry about staying warm or feeling self-conscious about hygiene, they can focus on what really matters: their education. I've noticed that students who are physically comfortable are more likely to participate in class discussions, collaborate with peers, and engage in hands-on activities.

Our goals extend beyond just providing supplies. We aim to create a supportive environment where students know their basic needs matter. Having access to warm clothing during winter months means fewer absences and more consistent learning. The hygiene supplies will boost their confidence during crucial teenage years, leading to better social interactions and stronger classroom engagement.

These materials will help break down barriers that shouldn't exist in the first place. Every teenager deserves to feel clean, warm, and ready to learn. When we meet these fundamental needs, we're not just supporting their physical comfort – we're nurturing their dignity and setting them up for academic success.
