This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is a place of collaborative learning experiences. Students often work in pairs and groups to create projects that display what they've learned, solve real-world math problems, and represent their findings using mathematical models.
My students are an energetic group of diverse learners who, unfortunately, do not always have access to technology and the Internet at home.
Those who do have a noticeable advantage over the others in terms of vocabulary development, problem-solving, reading, and technology skills. Ninety-three percent of our student population is economically disadvantaged, in need of extra support to achieve all that they are capable of.
My Project
For our class, iPads would mean access to content on the Internet and the ability to create presentations and documents, all of which supports their progress toward achieving the new California Common Core Standards. Students would have an opportunity to use the iPads to develop many 21st-Century skills, including keyboarding, gathering research, understanding and evaluating research, and creating graphs, charts, and documents. Finally, iPads would give students access to thousands of apps and websites to enhance their learning and broaden their horizons.
These donations will help my classroom make the leap into 21st-Century Education and the new Common Core Standards for Learning, which acknowledge the need for access to diverse learning content and text.
The iPads, along with instruction, would allow my students to better understand the world we live in, the world beyond our own limited experiences.
