This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

With your help 36 students could have the chance to have their own novel and journal, which could ultimately encourage each of them to become lifelong readers and writers.

The environment in which my students live is becoming increasingly violent and poor.

The unemployment rate in CA is one of the highest in the country and many cannot afford to provide their basic needs, let alone their educational needs. That is where I hope you can help.

My Project

I am a new teacher to 5th grade and have many aspirations for this year. More than 90 percent of the students I serve live below the poverty level. I would love for the chance to have every student read their first novel. The novel, Maniac Magee, will teach them to overcome obstacles of prejudice and poverty. They will also be able to learn to reflect on their learning through journals. I have also requested folders for each child help them organize their writing as well as books that help them with the troubles of bullying and stress will support them in their future. Motivators, such as pencils and certificates, will also help to encourage them to do their very best.

With your help I also hope to create a positive environment with resources that educate the students on bullying, as well as motivators the recognize their hard work.

My students are capable of becoming successful adults and I happily accept the challenge of trying to meet their needs through literature, writing, problem solving, and motivation.
