My Students

My students inspire and surprise me all of the time! I have the privilege of working with small groups of learners who work hard, collaborate, and continue to build their reading stamina and language skills every day. We live in a small mountain community in Northern California. My first through fifth-grade students, many of whom are Dual-language Learners, need additional support with reading, writing, and language development. They thrive in learning environments where they feel safe taking risks; where they perceive reading and writing as positive and attainable; and where they know their voices will be heard and honored by those around them.

My students are eager learners who speak a variety of languages, demonstrate unique learning needs, and respond well to rich & engaging instructional approaches.

My students are continuously seeking answers to difficult questions and trying to make sense of the injustices that they see around them. This book will help them to continue to find answers to these, as well as other questions that may arise.

My Project

I would like to help facilitate deep discussions about equity and social justice. I believe that it will help students to deepen their understanding of history, as well as how issues of racism continue to impact us today. There are clear steps to working toward becoming antiracists within this book, and these are essential for our students, staff, and community.

I believe that Stamped for Kids is ESSENTIAL reading for everyone and look forward to the discussions that our staff and students have after they read it.

For our younger students, teachers can select excerpts to read and discuss with their classes, while older students will be able to read it independently and then have discussions with their classmates and teacher, and finally, staff members will be able to read it and have discussions with one another and think about how to reshape our curriculum and interactions to move toward an anti-racist campus.

Our small community has many positive attributes, including the potential to continue to grow in meaningful and deeply significant ways. This book will help us to reflect and navigate the challenging, yet essential, the path to becoming antiracists.
