My students need math essentials such as hands on manipulatives. I need a curriculum that supports the population of students I work with. Materials that make math fun.
Every child needs to learn the basics when it comes to math. Paper and pencil problems might have been the path teachers in the past applied, but children thrive on interest and are motivated by hands on activities. Students need exciting and practical approaches to math.
My classroom is a Center Based Special Education classroom for students with multiple disabilities.
This classroom supports inclusion and educates students Kindergarten to fifth grade. Each child attends their general education classes as well as groups in the Center Based classroom for literacy, math, social skills, communication skills, and independence. Every child is fully capable of learning and my students have proved that! They each have made progress in multiple academic categories. With the high expectations of both myself and their general education teachers, these students shine in all classes.
My Project
The students in my class are learning basic math skills and need adequate supplies to support learning. Some of my students are working on same/different as well as big/small, colors, shapes, etc. One of my students has visual impairments and would benefit from the requested 3D Feel and Find as well as Whatzit box of manipulatives to work on these skills. The requested Hands on Standards curriculum for PreK-K and 1-2 grades will guide math groups that are working on addition, subtraction, etc. The requested interlinking cubes and timers are additional resources that will benefit their growth in math and help enhance further learning of all math related topics. Math is an essential piece of independence and our classroom is a key stepping stone to helping these students work towards the goal of independent living. Basic math skills such as numbers, money, shapes, colors, etc. help build towards more complex math knowledge necessary to being an independent adult in society.
This project is very important to helping the students in this classroom succeed with mathematics.
These students work very hard each day to learn and it does not always come easy to them. They deserve resources that will help them achieve success in learning!
