My students need classroom novel sets like The One and Only Ivan, The Cricket in Times Square, and The Tale of Despereaux to foster a love of reading that will last a lifetime. Headphones and partitions are used for privacy while reading.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students come from a variety of cultures and home situations. Many begin their educational journey ill equipped and find themselves struggling behind peers. Despite these differences and challenges, we have come together with a common goal: to improve our minds with quality education.
Our school and the community it serves strive to close achievement gaps with dedicated teachers and high quality instruction.
These young minds deserve to experience the scholastic success that hard work, dedication, and effort can provide.
My Project
Do you remember your favorite book you read in elementary school? By donating to this project, you can help give a child that same experience. These sets of classroom novels will help to provide a language rich environment in which students can develop a life-long love of reading. By discussing these novel sets during guided reading, students will be exposed to new vocabulary, practice critical reading skills and strategies, and ultimately achieve a better understanding of the core curriculum.
By teaching the core curriculum though novels, students can build a relationship with literature that cannot be achieved with basal reading.
As students complete each novel, the characters and lessons they learn will become a part of their soul. The experiences they have while reading and participating in classroom discussions can forever impact their perceptions of literature and the world itself.
Listening to fluent readers is a key element in developing language skills. These headphones will allow my students to listen to fluent speech at their individual reading level. In addition, the microphone component of these headphones will allow students to record their reading and allow me to track their progress.
All of these materials enable me to better develop the reading skills of my students.
