This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Strive for the Summit" is our school's motto. My students are the embodiment of this motto. They are mostly eleventh graders who signed up to take an advanced placement course in computer science!
Our students are first-time computer science learners.
They took a risk in signing up for this course and they won't be disappointed when learning about their digital lives.
Gender equity is a priority for me and girls represent over one-third of the class! This is the start of a new and exciting course offering at our school.
My Project
We all know how school was closed suddenly and us teachers were not allowed to enter campus. We are required to do "distance learning" in order to salvage the end of the year. Well, that is much easier to do when you have the proper equipment! So far it has been a struggle to adequately conduct distance learning.
With this gear, students can easily access their teacher, and still learn, while they are not physically at school.
Having a good headset is critical for spending hours in front of the computer. The webcam gives students a chance to see and interact with their teacher. At a time when they do not see other people, this raises morale. But these things are only as good as the wifi connection, and connection speed is essential for giving good audio and video quality.
