Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The first month of kindergarten sets the tone for the entire school year. During this critical time, we introduce foundational literacy skills and begin building students’ love for reading. In my bilingual classroom, we use both English and Spanish to support language development, comprehension, and vocabulary.
This project will provide essential books that align with our curriculum, including titles such as ¡No, David!, David va a la escuela, The Napping House, and The Three Little Pigs / Los tres cerditos.
These stories are engaging, developmentally appropriate, and help students make personal connections to literature as they learn about classroom routines, emotions, and making good choices.
In addition to the books, this project includes toner for our grade-level printer. This will allow me to print leveled readers, phonics worksheets, vocabulary cards, and guided reading materials needed for small group and whole-group instruction. Having access to printed resources makes it possible to differentiate instruction and give each student what they need to grow as readers.
The tablet included in this project will be used at our literacy station to give students access to interactive read-alouds and listening centers. It will also be used to record and reflect on student progress during reading activities.
