This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I feel as though there are not enough words to describe who my students really are, but I will give it my best try. My students come from socioeconomic disadvantage. They are the hardest working people I know. They are determined to be the first in their families to graduate from high school. They are kind, caring, and compassionate people. They are ever so eager to learn. They make the best with what they have and they are determined to find success no matter the obstacles they face.

They push me constantly to be a better teacher and a better human being.

I know they deserve the best and I always strive to make sure they get it.

My Project

I have been given the opportunity to offer a new sport at my school. My school has been offered a spot in an E-Sports league. The only thing holding us back is our lack of platforms in which to practice. My students can barely afford pencils, let alone gaming systems. I was able to use DonorsChoose to fund the systems. Now we just need to get tv stands to make sure that we’re able to store our equipment and make it last for years. E-Sports will reach students that don't traditionally play school sports or compete on teams. It would give them an opportunity to learn teamwork, leadership, and communication skills.

We would be the first school in our city to have a team and will be the only team that is multiracial competing in the league.

Many of my students plan to go to school as gaming designers, and this is an amazing opportunity for them.

I want my students to have the same opportunities that everyone else has, and not feel the sting of disappointment that they had the talent, but couldn't do something because of cost.
