My Students

Quirky. Cheerful. Exuberant. The afterschool e-sports club at CMS is all these and more. Middle school is a tough time for many people, but this extracurricular activity is a chance for all students to relax and compete in an alternative setting where their physical development doesn't matter as much as in other extracurricular activities.

Gaming is a great way to build self-regulation skills and strategies for our students and promotes mastery-based learning.

We've already had a few sessions where people have gotten frustrated, but have been able to practice those self-regulation techniques. Some of our regular students have been able to step into leadership roles that they might not otherwise be able to experience!

My Project

In order to bring more opportunities to the students at CMS, we started up an Esports club after school. So far, we've managed to play on a variety of systems, but to really push us to the next level we need to have dedicated systems to play Rocket League, Pokemon Unite, and other games as they become available to middle school competition.

We've already had learning opportunities to practice self-regulation and to demonstrate sportsmanship and it's been fantastic.

We want to grow these opportunities so that ALL students can be good sports, not just those out on the field or the court.
