This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

At our elementary we aim to support our students in becoming bilingual, biliterate, and bi-cultural. In 2nd grade I currently teach 80% of the subjects in Spanish and 20% in English. This will be my first year as a second grade teacher and I would love to provide space for all of my students to sit down for read aloud time.

The current rug I have does not have sufficient space for them and when they have attempted to all sit they feel overcrowded.

Currently I have about 7-8 students who prefer to grab a chair and that is fine however I would love to provide them with space for each student to be able to sit comfortably on the carpet and enjoy a read aloud. Thank you for helping our classroom become a better learning environment!

My Project

Every student in my classroom will feel that he/she has their individual spot as the new rug will have 30 squares that will provide them with enough space. That is currently not the case. They will each be able to walk to their own spot on the rug when I say "Vamonos a la alfobra para leerles un cuento"/ "let's go to the rug for a read aloud"

My students will no longer feel that anyone else is overcrowding them, as they will be provided with sufficient space while listening to exciting literature in both English and Spanish.
