Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
It takes so much to be a successful teacher. Since becoming an ESL teacher, there are so many things that are needed to be successful and organized. When I left the 3rd-grade classroom, I did not anticipate how much, so I left most of my educational materials with my 3rd-grade replacement.
With that being said, I need new materials to supplement what I already have.
Many materials are basic but will help facilitate learning. ESL students are required to take standardized tests 4 times a year, with grades 3-5 an additional PSSA test. A pencil sharpener to sharpen pencils for these students so they have 2 pencils each becomes very tedious. Dividers also alleviate distractions and give students a quiet space to work. We like to reward our students for taking these multiple tests, so prizes are critical. A laminator helps secure and keep materials from being ruined. We photocopy many colored photos to assist ESL students with vocabulary. Paper protectors will keep lesson plans protected. A speaker to enhance audio for Level 1 ESL students provides pronunciation of words. ESL is a "push-in" model which requires me to travel from room to room to provide support. The magnetic tabletop whiteboard allows me to have a portable board to write words and sentences for small groups. These small groups are asked to sit at a small table and sturdy stools will help make room for all students to sit. Previous metal stools have broken. Last but not least, Lysol wipes keep areas clean that multiple students use.
