Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are ESL and come from all walks of life. I have students from Mexico, Iran, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands this year. Some are low-income and have made sacrifices to come to the school in the United States. Some have little to no English at all while others have a good foundation to learn more. My students are capable of thriving in an English speaking environment with a lot of patience and perseverance and hard work. They have it harder than their English speaking peers.
My Project
In our classroom, we have been working with drywall meant for bathrooms instead of actual Dry Erase boards. They are hard to clean and require baby oil to get off the ink which is quite messy and not to mention that they are hard to read.
My students need to be able to read from an actual dry erase board instead of the make-shift drywall slabs that they are currently using.
Funding this project will ensure that many more students can benefit from having a classroom where they have proper dry erase boards to work from.
On the dry wall boards that I am currently using, students often complain that they can't hardly see what is written due to marks that are stubborn. English is the second language of my students and they need to clearly see the grammar of written English. Funding this board will bring clarity to my classroom.
