As a border city, El Paso is diverse and has a significant connection to various South American cultures. This project allowed my students to explore not only their heritage but others as well including France, Germany, and Japan where paper craft techniques are important forms of art.\r\nWhen students first got their materials, they did not yet know how many piece of art can be used from simple recycled materials. They learned that the only limitation in reusing materials such as newspapers, old worksheets, past artwork they no longer wanted, cardboard, even cans, is their imagination. They learned that items can have more than one function and can be transformed from waste to art.
