Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is in need of Science Textbooks which cater to our large population of ESL students. As it is now, the current textbook we have are hard to read and follow by our ESL students. The vocabulary is not clearly defined, the ideas are muddled and reading level is well above what is usable by our students. Because of this, textbook use has been mostly abandoned by our staff and the students are not being exposed to the amount of reading in Science they should be.
We have discovered a textbook which we do like and meets our needs for our 6th graders. This book is the Science Saurus 6-8th grade book published by Great Source Education Group.
Classroom sets for each of our two 6th grader teachers would go a long way to bring reading back into our science classrooms. These class sets will service approximately 250 students.
