My Project
I see diverse students every single day in my classroom. The specific items requested will help my students connect with their diverse cultures. I teach English as a Second Language and realized my students are not represented enough in my classroom library. I know my students bring their own diversity with their different languages, cultures, personalities, etc. If I can provide them with goods to push them to be themselves, I will do everything in my power to make that happen.
If my students had books that represented who they were, I would have the entire class glued to novel pages. They love reading but it is difficult to read at a middle school level for some of these students. I have added some books of an easier lexile to help them get a passion in reading. Recently, my students have been very interested in reading on their own.
My students are one of a kind. They come from so many different backgrounds but there has never been a minute where they excluded somebody because of that. Teaching ESL has changed the way I view communication and learning.
