Escaping the Dark and Entering the World of Color!
My students need a healthy dose of art in their life. They all begin school with one box of crayons that is expected to last all year long. We need paint, markers, glitter, glue.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a large inner city school in the heart of one of Chicago's worst neighborhoods. We are located directly in the center of the violence that you are hearing about on the news. Once our students enter into the building they leave behind the gangs, the violence, the poverty, the drugs, the abuse and they become children again.
They become vulnerable, trusting, malleable, just what kids should be.
They dream big and still believe all things are possible, that they can slay dragons with a paper sword.
My Project
We have no art program in our school, the budget just does not allow it. This school year I am determined to bring art into the life of our students, and with your help we will be able to help them see that the world is not just a box of crayons but an explosion of color!
We have converted an old music room into an art studio, and what a surprise it was to find a box of white music shirts!
We have enough shirts for all 123 students to create their own unique painting smock with the fabric paint and brushes we are asking for.
With your help these students may just slay that dragon after all.
