I will use these locks and lock boxes to create an in-classroom escape room to promote student engagement. My students love hands-on activities, which can be challenging with ELA. An escape room would be an engaging activity that gets them moving, encourages them to collaborate with their classmates, and promotes critical thinking skills. When I asked my students if they'd enjoy doing an in-class escape room, they excitedly said, "Yes! We'd love that!"
Escape rooms are fun activities that capture students' attention, help them make thoughtful connections to the subject material, and require multiple skills to complete, which encourages all students to participate.
Additionally, they are easily adaptable! I will be able to modify and reuse these materials throughout my entire teaching career to engage students in our content. This year, I will be basing our escape room on Fahrenheit 451. The "firemen" in the novel burn books, and my students will be using clues from the book to "escape the firemen."
