I teach English/language arts to more than one hundred seventh grade students. Our school is a Title One school in rural South Carolina where a significant portion of students are below the poverty line. My classes are composed of both high-achieving gifted and talented students, and struggling students who are often reading below grade level. Each of these groups has very unique needs in order to be successful, and each group needs encouragement and guidance to reach their individual potential.
My Project
This year I have implemented escape rooms as an activity in my classroom, and it has been by far one of the most successful things I've ever done. They absolutely love escape room days, except for one thing- we just don't have enough escape room kits. I would love to continue these activities with my kids without them having to work in groups of 12 and 13, which is not ideal for any learning style. With the purchase of an additional kit, and some cool new accessories my breakouts can be a much more meaningful experience for everyone. And with that, my kids will be ready to save the world!
