Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a small, fully inclusive charter school, where almost 90% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch. I work with students who are labeled in many ways: ELL, LD, ID, BIP, IEP, SLP, apraxic, autistic, ADD, ADHD, ODD, and the list goes on. I'm working to help students remove their labels and find their feet, as well as their voices.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds, but one thing they have in common is their thirst for creative learning opportunities.
My Project
This project is to coordinate an escape room complete with different locks, Boogie Board technology, and lock boxes. These materials will allow us to hone skills such as perimeter, area, multiplication, and problem solving.
Escape classrooms are an experience of collaboration, problem solving, and cooperation.
This project includes a variety of locks, different boxes for clues, and Boogie Boards for students to solve riddles and the next clue. Working together towards a similar goal is not easy to teach. Students need more opportunities in this area to become young adults that work together instead of against each other. This is the beginning of an escape classroom that will provide endless problem-solving, clue-finding, exploration and successful crime-solving experiences. We can't wait!
