Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school theme is "Welcome Home, Where Every Student Counts." How important is that theme we created at the beginning of the school year due to the fact that we are receiving an abundance of children who have been displaced from Puerto Rico because their homes were destroyed. Many are coming without parents and are living with relatives. They speak little or no English. Homes are crowded, and the situations in the homes are difficult.

We are a Title I school and 100% of our students are on free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch.

My Project

To get students to read is getting harder and harder. Technology is pulling them away from books. Most students spend hours on the computer, PlayStation, or YouTube. Forget those books.

Having an escape room will challenge the students to read the material they are assigned and then, escape, showing they have done the assignment.

Students need to read. It is something that will always be a necessity in life. Groups will be able to compete against each other providing a collaborative environment. They will be given clues to solve and use those clues to open the boxes. Blacklights, invisible pens and puzzles will be used as part of the clues. This will allow them to learn to work together.

Getting them to read is just as important to learning how to get along.
