My school is a large Title I school where eighty percent of the students live below the poverty line. My students are racially, academically, and economically diverse. Yet they are also hardworking, enthusiastic young people full of potential and possibilities. They have lots of life and energy.
They love to learn, especially in new and exciting ways, and they recognize that they are part of a larger, generous community.
Please consider helping me to make this their best year ever!
I currently have a subscription to an escape challenge service for my students. They enjoy learning via escape challenges. It gives them a chance to move around the classroom and work together solving challenges. What often seems impossible to them at first, soon becomes reality when they pool their resources and work together.
I often find that they forget they are at school learning while completing escape challenges, because they are super engaged and having fun.
This challenge will be no different. I envision setting up an escape challenge where students will have to complete specific building tasks.
They will use the giant building blocks (like super sizedLegos) I am asking for in this project to complete those tasks. This will require them to reason, work together and use math skills.
As they complete a challenge, they will move on to the next one until they earn a key to "escape." Of course, that is their favorite part. Receiving that key means they have succeeded, and you cannot imagine how proud they are of that accomplishment.
