This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are amazing lovers of learning. As the oldest in the school , they strive to be the leaders we know they can be. As members of the robotics club, they are admired by the rest of the students.
My students range in age from 10-12, are primarily African-American, and unfortunately, they all come from low socioeconomic homes.
100% of my students receive free lunch and breakfast. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
My Project
While my students love to learn new content, they are still children and truly enjoy chances to play while learning. With these locks and lock boxes, I can create an escape room type atmosphere. Where students must work out problems/investigations to acquire combinations for said locks. Inside the lock boxes might be treats or free homework passes for a job well done.
The Escape Room element adds excitement to the learning environment and almost guarantees complete student engagement.
What teacher wouldn't want to use this as a means of educational interaction between students and their content. It truly is a win-win for both teacher and students.
